Vaughn College Gala Celebrates Leadership and Expanding Pathways in Aviation
Vaughn College hosted its annual Gala on April 16, recognizing five leaders whose work continues to shape the aviation sector and expand opportunities for the next generation of aerospace professionals. This year marked the first time the event honored multiple recipients, underscoring the breadth of industry leadership supporting workforce development and educational access.

Honorees Represent Major Aviation Organizations
The College recognized Debbie Coffey of Atlas Air Worldwide, Evita Garces of American Airlines, Icema D. Gibbs of JetBlue Airways, Patricia Ornst of Delta Air Lines, and Monica Slater Stokes of United Airlines. The program was guided by panel presenter Sharon Pinkerton of Airlines for America, with NBC News correspondent Anne Thompson serving as emcee. The honorees represent a cross section of commercial aviation leadership, each contributing to initiatives that strengthen the talent pipeline and broaden industry engagement.
Focus on Workforce Development and Industry Partnerships
A panel discussion highlighted the importance of collaboration between aviation organizations and academic institutions. The event raised more than 420,000 dollars to support student activities and academic initiatives. Sponsorship came from major aviation organizations including Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, Atlas Air, JetBlue Airways, American Airlines, Aviation Week, Airlines for America, GE Aerospace, and others. The level of support reflects the industry’s ongoing commitment to developing a skilled and diverse workforce.
Vaughn College’s Role in Aviation Education
Founded in 1932, Vaughn College enrolls more than 1,500 students in engineering, technology, management, and aviation programs.
