BittWare Launches Early Access Program for 3U VPX Cards, Targeting Next-Gen Aerospace and Defense Systems

BittWare, a Molex company with a 30-year legacy in embedded computing, has announced an early access program for its upcoming line of 3U VPX cards. These new cards integrate next-generation AMD Ryzen Embedded processors and AMD Versal Adaptive SoCs, offering a leap forward in performance, size, weight, and power optimization for mission-critical aerospace and defense applications.

The program provides select customers with NDA-protected access to technical specifications and roadmap insights, allowing early adopters to begin development ahead of general availability. The cards are designed for high-demand environments such as avionics, radar, electronic warfare, and unmanned aerial systems, where real-time data acquisition and multi-sensor processing are essential.

Engineering for the Edge: Compact Power Meets Rugged Reliability

The 3U VPX form factor is increasingly favored in aerospace and defense for its balance of modularity and ruggedness. BittWare’s new cards align with SOSA (Sensor Open Systems Architecture) and VITA 48 standards, ensuring interoperability and thermal resilience in harsh conditions. By combining AMD’s x86 embedded CPUs with integrated GPUs and machine learning-capable NPUs, the cards are engineered for second-stage computing in advanced mission systems.

The new 3U VPX cards from BittWare leverage next-generation AMD Ryzen Embedded and Versal Adaptive SoCs to deliver high-performance, compact and rugged solutions optimized for mission-critical aerospace and defense systems.

This architecture supports real-time signal intelligence (SIGINT), radar processing, and sensor fusion, making it particularly relevant for platforms where latency and throughput are non-negotiable. The inclusion of AMD Versal RF Series devices further enhances the cards’ ability to handle direct RF data streams, a growing requirement in modern defense electronics.

According to AMD’s Aerospace and Defense Vertical Market Director, Minal Sawant, the collaboration accelerates adoption of adaptive SoCs and embedded CPUs in deployable systems, helping defense customers meet evolving design requirements.

Complementing this effort, Molex subsidiary AirBorn has introduced a SOSA-compliant 3U VPX power supply designed for space-constrained environments. This power system supports continuous operation in platforms ranging from Low Earth Orbit satellites to military ground vehicles and AI-driven robotics, reinforcing the broader ecosystem BittWare is building around its VPX offerings.
