Green Hills Software Introduces Safety Focused Software Foundation for AMD Versal AI Edge Gen 2

Green Hills Software has announced a comprehensive software foundation for the AMD Versal AI Edge Series Gen 2 platform, a next generation adaptive system on chip designed for sensor driven, safety critical applications. The collaboration between Green Hills and AMD is intended to support industries that require deterministic performance, strict certification pathways, and long term reliability, including aerospace, defense, robotics, and advanced mobility.

Integrated Platform for Mixed Criticality Aerospace Systems

The combined solution brings together AMD’s adaptive compute architecture with Green Hills Software’s portfolio of safety certified real time operating systems, hypervisors, compilers, and development tools. The offering supports both Arm Cortex A78AE and Cortex R52 compute complexes, enabling developers to consolidate mixed criticality workloads on a single chip while maintaining strict separation and predictable execution.

For aerospace programs that increasingly rely on onboard autonomy, real time sensor fusion, and AI enabled decision support, the platform provides a unified hardware and software environment engineered to meet ASIL D and SIL 3 requirements. This level of integration is designed to reduce system complexity and accelerate certification driven development cycles.

Support for Safety and Security Critical Workloads

Green Hills is providing its INTEGRITY real time operating system, the micro velOSity RTOS, the micro visor hypervisor, and the INTEGRITY Multivisor virtualization environment. These components allow developers to run safety critical, mission critical, and general purpose software side by side while maintaining isolation and deterministic behavior.

The MULTI integrated development environment adds advanced debugging, static analysis, and system visualization capabilities. These tools are intended to help engineers identify issues earlier in the development process, a key advantage for aerospace programs with long qualification timelines and stringent verification requirements.

Enabling AI Driven Processing for Aerospace Applications

The AMD Versal AI Edge Gen 2 platform is built around a three stage processing model that includes FPGA based preprocessing, AI inference, and CPU based postprocessing. Green Hills Software’s support for the postprocessing stage enables complex control logic and decision making to be executed within a safety certified environment.

This architecture is well suited for aerospace applications such as autonomous flight control, advanced sensing, mission computing, and onboard analytics. As aircraft and spacecraft systems generate increasing volumes of real time data, the ability to process information at the edge with certified software becomes a critical requirement.

Designed for Certification and Cybersecurity Compliance

The Green Hills platform includes support for the company’s Cybersecurity Resilience Act compliance framework, which helps manufacturers align with emerging European cybersecurity regulations. The company also offers design services to assist customers in meeting safety, security, and certification objectives at the system level.

For aerospace manufacturers and suppliers, the combined AMD and Green Hills solution provides a pathway to develop next generation intelligent systems that meet both performance and regulatory expectations.

Availability and Industry Engagement

Green Hills Software is currently enabling lead customers on the AMD Versal AI Edge Series Gen 2 VEK385 evaluation kit. The company is participating in AMD’s embedded computing events in San Jose and Herndon, where it is demonstrating the integrated platform to developers and system architects.
