AI-Powered Circular Economy for Aluminum

Sortera’s proprietary platform sorts mixed aluminum scrap into specific, high-quality alloys — including grades like 380, 356, 319, and wrought alloys — that meet the chemistry requirements of casting and rolling applications. This precision sorting enables the company to create recycled aluminum that can directly substitute for primary (virgin) material.

Building Greater Capacity and Local Supply

The new Tennessee plant will mirror the capabilities of Sortera’s flagship facility in Markle, Indiana. By being closer to customers in key manufacturing regions, the company can enhance logistics, improve responsiveness, and scale production more efficiently. With this expansion, Sortera expects to reach an annual capacity of approximately 240 million pounds of sorted aluminum. The facility is planned to be operational by the summer of 2026.

Environmental Impact

By diverting scrap that would otherwise be downcycled or sent overseas, Sortera significantly reduces energy demand. Their process reportedly uses around 95 percent less energy compared to producing aluminum from ore. This means lower CO₂ emissions for downstream customers — a meaningful step toward circular production in sectors like automotive, aerospace, and construction.
