Type One Ventures Announces Senior Leadership Promotions
Type One Ventures has advanced two members of its investment team into expanded leadership roles as the firm continues to scale its global presence across space, artificial intelligence, and deep technology markets. Gustav Spangberg has been promoted to Principal and Jacob Flores has been named Head of Research. Both will take on broader responsibilities that support the firm’s growing portfolio and its increasing influence across frontier technology sectors.
Spangberg Steps Into Principal Role

Gustav Spangberg previously served as Senior Associate, where he played a central role in sourcing and evaluating opportunities across space and deep technology. He is widely recognized for his extensive network of founders and early stage companies operating in orbital infrastructure, in space logistics, autonomous systems, and advanced computing.
In his new role as Principal, Spangberg will lead a greater number of transactions, deepen founder relationships, and help drive thematic initiatives across the firm’s core verticals. His work will also contribute to Type One Ventures thought leadership in areas such as launch systems, in orbit manufacturing, high performance computing, and autonomous industrial platforms.
Co Founder and Managing Partner Tarek Waked noted that Spangberg’s advancement reflects both his discipline and his instinct for identifying promising frontier technology companies. Waked highlighted Spangberg’s ability to recognize potential in emerging markets and his consistent track record of elevating strong technical founders.
Flores Appointed Head of Research

Jacob Flores joined Type One Ventures in 2024 as the firm’s first full time Research Analyst. He quickly became a key contributor to the firm’s diligence processes, producing technical assessments, market analyses, and investment briefs that strengthened the firm’s ability to evaluate opportunities across space systems, advanced computation, and next generation mobility.
As Head of Research, Flores will lead a growing team of analysts supporting the firm’s global offices in Los Angeles, London, Dubai, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Tokyo. He will oversee the development of investment memos, technical research, and strategic intelligence that inform the firm’s multi stage investment approach. His work will also support the continued build out of the Type One Ventures Research and Intelligence Office.
Co Founder and Managing Partner Abdo John Hajj emphasized Flores ability to provide balanced, methodical analysis that identifies both opportunities and risks. Hajj noted that Flores disciplined approach enhances the firm’s diligence standards and strengthens its long term investment strategy.
