WindShape Opens First U.S. Facility to Advance Drone Testing and Environmental Simulation

Swiss technology firm WindShape has opened its first U.S. facility in Tulsa, Oklahoma, expanding its footprint in drone testing and environmental simulation. The new site is located within the Helmerich Research Center at Oklahoma State University’s Tulsa campus and will serve as a hub for advanced testing of unmanned aerial systems (UAS) under controlled atmospheric conditions.

Facility Designed to Support Precision Testing for Aerospace Applications

WindShape specializes in wind and weather simulation technologies that enable repeatable, lab-based testing of drones and other aerial platforms. The Tulsa facility features a modular wind and weather test chamber capable of simulating complex flight environments, including turbulence, gusts, and precipitation. These capabilities are increasingly relevant to aerospace manufacturers and operators seeking to validate UAS performance in real-world conditions without relying solely on outdoor testing.

Swiss-based company, WindShape, Inc., has planted roots at Skyway Range, a drone testing facility located just minutes from downtown Tulsa on the Osage Nation Reservation. To celebrate the grand opening of its first U.S. facility, WindShape hosted a ribbon-cutting, inviting the public to tour the state-of-the-art indoor drone simulation lab.

The company’s technology has been used in Europe for both commercial and defense applications, and its expansion into the U.S. market reflects growing demand for standardized, high-fidelity testing environments.

Strategic Location and Industry Collaboration

The Tulsa site was selected for its proximity to aerospace research institutions and its alignment with regional efforts to grow advanced air mobility and UAS innovation. WindShape will collaborate with Oklahoma State University and other local partners to support research, workforce development, and industry engagement.
