Teledyne FLIR Defense Secures $35 Million Contract to Equip European Reconnaissance Vehicles
Teledyne FLIR Defense has been awarded a contract exceeding $35 million to supply its TacFLIR 280‑HDEP multi‑spectral surveillance systems for integration on reconnaissance vehicles operated by WB Electronics S.A. of Poland. The award marks the company’s third armored‑vehicle program win in Europe this year, reinforcing the growing demand for advanced electro‑optical and infrared sensing technologies across NATO‑aligned ground forces.
Enhancing Situational Awareness for Modern Ground Operations
The TacFLIR 280‑HDEP system provides medium‑range, multi‑spectral surveillance capabilities designed to support a wide range of land missions. The sensor suite delivers high‑resolution daylight and thermal imagery, advanced video processing, and Aided Target Recognition features that help operators detect, classify, and track objects in complex environments. The system has been field‑tested in Europe for nearly a decade, demonstrating reliability in harsh weather and operational conditions.

Teledyne leadership emphasized that the integration of TacFLIR technology will give military crews a clearer operational picture while reducing risk to personnel. The system’s ability to provide real‑time intelligence and target identification supports faster decision‑making and improved mission effectiveness.
Continued Momentum in European Armored Vehicle Programs
This latest award follows two earlier announcements in 2026 involving European ground platforms. In February, Teledyne FLIR confirmed that its Black Hornet 4 nano‑drone would be digitally integrated into Switzerland’s Piranha 8×8 vehicles, enabling live video and target data streaming to onboard systems. In January, the company secured a contract to supply long‑range thermal imaging sights and radars for Bulgaria’s new Stryker fleet. Combined, the three programs total more than $85 million in awards.
For aerospace and defense stakeholders, the trend highlights the increasing convergence of ground and airborne sensing technologies. As militaries modernize their reconnaissance and surveillance capabilities, demand for integrated EO/IR systems, autonomous sensors, and cross‑domain data fusion continues to rise.
Strengthening Industrial Collaboration in Poland
The agreement with WB Group builds on years of cooperation between the companies. The Polish defense sector has been expanding its investment in advanced reconnaissance and situational‑awareness technologies, and the TacFLIR integration supports broader modernization efforts across the region.
The TacFLIR 280‑HDEP systems will be produced at Teledyne FLIR Defense’s facility in Billerica, Massachusetts, contributing to the company’s U.S. manufacturing footprint while supporting allied defense capabilities abroad.
