Beta Cloth Returns: Versiv Composites and Bron Aerotech Revive Space-Grade Fabric

Beta Cloth, a legendary material in spaceflight history, is officially back in production thanks to a partnership between Versiv Composites and Bron Aerotech. Following the closure of the Saint-Gobain facility in Merrimack, the two companies have successfully replicated the legacy Beta® Cloth Fabric and are now shipping it to customers worldwide.

Why Beta Cloth Matters

Used extensively on the International Space Station and other spacecraft, Beta Cloth is prized for its:

  • Resistance to atomic oxygen and micrometeoroid orbital debris (MMOD)
  • Proven flight heritage spanning over 26 years
  • Compatibility with NASA, Northrop Grumman, and Lockheed Martin specifications

Andrew Palasek of Bron Aerotech emphasized its unique durability in harsh space environments, while Marta Miciula-Osak of Versiv Composites highlighted the material’s legacy and future potential in next-gen space missions.

Editorial Insight: A Quiet but Crucial Comeback

This isn’t just a supply chain win—it’s a restoration of a material that quietly underpins spacecraft safety and longevity. With renewed R&D efforts and customization options (including coatings and laminations), Beta Cloth is poised to support evolving Multilayer Insulation (MLI) needs and advanced aerospace applications.
