Ellen M. Lord Joins Marlinspike Partners to Support Growth in Autonomy, Advanced Manufacturing and Defense Innovation
Marlinspike Partners has appointed Ellen M. Lord, former Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment, as a Strategic Advisor. Her addition strengthens the firm’s ability to evaluate and scale companies developing advanced aerospace, defense and industrial technologies, particularly in autonomy, AI‑enabled engineering and next‑generation manufacturing.

Lord’s experience spans both government and industry. At the Department of Defense, she oversaw acquisition, sustainment, supply chain security and modernization initiatives across the military services. Prior to that, she led major aerospace and defense manufacturing organizations, giving her deep insight into production systems, regulatory frameworks and technology transition challenges.
At Marlinspike, Lord will advise on investment diligence, portfolio strategy and engagement with government stakeholders. Her role includes helping companies navigate certification pathways, strengthen supply chain resilience and align emerging technologies with operational mission needs.
The firm’s investment thesis centers on technologies that can accelerate industrial transformation, including autonomy‑enabled systems, high‑precision manufacturing platforms and AI‑driven engineering tools. These areas have seen increased demand as both government and commercial customers seek to modernize production and reduce development timelines.
Lord’s appointment reflects a broader trend of private investment firms bringing in senior defense leaders to guide strategy in dual‑use technology markets. As the pace of innovation accelerates, firms with strong technical and regulatory expertise are better positioned to support companies transitioning from prototype to scaled production.
Marlinspike expects Lord’s involvement to enhance its ability to identify high‑potential technologies and support portfolio companies as they engage with defense and aerospace customers.
