Porter Airlines Expands E195-E2 Pilot Training with Montreal-Based Full-Flight Simulator
Porter Airlines has launched a new phase in its pilot training program by deploying a state-of-the-art Embraer E195-E2 full-flight simulator (FFS) at CAE’s Montreal training center. Developed by CAE and supported through its joint venture with Embraer—Embraer CAE Training Services (ECTS)—this simulator marks a strategic investment in domestic aviation infrastructure and workforce development.
A Canadian-Built Simulator for a Growing Fleet
The simulator, part of CAE’s 7000XR Series, features the Prodigy visual system, which uses Epic Games’ Unreal Engine to deliver photorealistic renderings and dynamic motion modeling. This immersive environment is designed to elevate pilot readiness and safety, especially as Porter scales up its E195-E2 fleet—46 aircraft delivered so far, with up to 100 expected.
Training began in May 2025, offering both initial and recurrent instruction for Porter’s E2 pilots. The Montreal location allows crews to train closer to home, reducing travel costs and supporting local aviation jobs.
Implications for Aerospace Training
The use of gaming technology in flight simulation isn’t just a novelty—it reflects a broader trend in aerospace training toward higher-fidelity, lower-cost solutions. By integrating Unreal Engine into its visual systems, CAE is pushing the envelope on realism, which could improve pilot performance and reduce training time.
For aerospace stakeholders, this development signals:
- Increased simulator realism for complex aircraft systems
- Localized training hubs that reduce logistical overhead
- Scalable training infrastructure to support fleet expansion
Global Reach, Local Impact
ECTS operates similar simulators in Singapore and Madrid, with additional training centers for Embraer’s Phenom jets in North America, Europe, and South America. The Montreal deployment not only strengthens Porter’s operational capabilities but also reinforces Canada’s role in global aviation training networks.
