Stephens Group Launches Aptus Aero and Acquires Atlas Aerospace to Build New MRO Platform

The Stephens Group has established Aptus Aero, a new aviation maintenance, repair, and overhaul platform designed to acquire and scale component‑focused MRO businesses. The launch is paired with the acquisition of Atlas Aerospace Accessories, a long‑standing Part 145 repair station serving global commercial, cargo, and military operators. The combined move positions Aptus Aero as a new entrant with immediate capability and leadership depth in the aviation aftermarket.

Establishing a Scalable Component MRO Platform

Aptus Aero is being built as a platform for highly engineered component repair services, with a strategy centered on acquiring market‑leading MRO businesses and expanding their technical and operational capabilities. The acquisition of Atlas Aerospace provides the new company with an established customer base and a broad component repair portfolio spanning pneumatics, hydraulics, electromechanical systems, electronics, and fuel systems. Founded in 1978 and based in Doral, Florida, Atlas supports major aircraft platforms across multiple end markets.

Stephens Group leadership emphasized that the formation of Aptus Aero reflects a long‑term commitment to building a world‑class provider in the aviation aftermarket. The company intends to leverage its experience in aerospace investments to accelerate growth and strengthen the technical foundation of the new platform.

New Leadership to Drive Growth and Integration

Concurrent with the acquisition, Aptus Aero appointed Dale Gabel as Chief Executive Officer. Gabel brings more than 15 years of experience leading aviation MRO organizations, including previous roles as CEO of Aero Parts Group, Velocity Aerospace Group, and AirReady MRO Services. He will oversee strategy, operational excellence initiatives, and future acquisition activity as Aptus Aero expands its footprint.

Gabel described the opportunity as one of the most compelling of his career, citing Stephens Group’s industry relationships and track record of supporting operators and technical teams. Atlas Aerospace’s leadership also expressed enthusiasm for joining the new platform and continuing to deliver the high‑quality service the company has provided for nearly five decades.

Strengthening the Aviation Aftermarket

For aerospace industry stakeholders, the formation of Aptus Aero signals continued consolidation and investment in the component MRO sector. As fleets age and global demand for reliable aftermarket support grows, platforms with diversified repair capabilities and strong operational leadership are positioned to play an increasingly important role.

With Atlas Aerospace as its foundation, Aptus Aero enters the market with established technical expertise, a global customer base, and a clear mandate to expand. Stephens Group’s long‑term investment approach suggests additional acquisitions and capability development are likely as the platform scales to meet evolving industry needs.
