Akima Appoints Marcus Lopez as Chief Operating Officer

Akima has named Marcus Lopez as chief operating officer, adding an experienced operations and growth leader to support the company’s expanding role across federal and defense markets. Lopez will report to President and CEO Bill Monet and will guide enterprise operations with a focus on consistent, compliant performance across Akima’s diverse portfolio.

Veteran Executive Brings Extensive Government and Technology Experience

Lopez joins Akima with more than 30 years of experience leading large scale transformation, technology integration, and enterprise growth in both commercial and government sectors. His background includes shaping multi billion dollar organizations, overseeing mergers and acquisitions, and advancing operational discipline across complex mission environments.

Monet noted that Lopez’s combination of technical expertise and strategic leadership will strengthen Akima’s ability to deliver mission critical capabilities for federal customers and support long term value for its Alaska Native shareholders.

Leadership Track Record Spans Government Services and Defense Aviation

Before joining Akima, Lopez served as President and Chief Growth Officer at Belcan, a Cognizant company, where he led the integration of a major enterprise and expanded commercial technologies into government applications. He previously led ManTech’s Advanced Research and Technology Business Unit, delivering strong growth and execution results.

Lopez is also a former U.S. Navy officer and pilot. He advanced to command a strike and fighter squadron that earned the Navy’s highest award for operational excellence, experience that aligns well with Akima’s work supporting aviation, readiness, and mission support programs.

Background and Education

Lopez holds a Master of Science in Management from Troy University and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the U.S. Naval Academy.
